September 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians,

For the 2021-2022 school year, the Floral Park-Bellerose School District is pleased to announce we will be participating in the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) of the National School Lunch Program.  This allows all students in the district to receive one free breakfast and/or one free lunch meal each school day.    If a student should order any a la carte items such as snacks, second meals, bottled water or milk/juice separate from a meal, they will be charged for it.  Please send in a note if you wish for your child to buy a second lunch.  Once we receive a note, we will mark it on their lunch account that they have permission all year.  A student will not be allowed to purchase a la carte items or a second lunch unless they have a positive lunch account balance.

All families that may qualify for free or reduced-price meals are strongly encouraged to complete a Free/Reduced Meal Application to ensure that when funding for the program ends, your child(ren) can still access free or reduced-price nutritious meals uninterrupted.  The applications will be sent home on the first day of school.  They will also be posted on the food service program tab on our website.

The free meals also apply to all Pre-K students.  For those students that are in a full day program, you have the benefit of ordering breakfast and lunch.  The teachers will be sending home order forms, so that you can let them know what your child wants to eat each day.

The national school lunch supply chain has been greatly affected by this pandemic.  This year we will still face many manufacturing and delivery delays.  I will try my best to communicate any changes with the menu via email and text message.  We have a digital menu on our website with all the up-to-date information.  Anytime I need to change a menu item, it will be revised immediately on the website.  Please reference this site when deciding what breakfast or lunches you want to order.

We continue to be a nut-free district.  Please refrain from sending any nut products for snack or lunch into school.  We appreciate your understanding and support in meeting these important accommodations.

Sincerely,

Karen Crenshaw

School Lunch Manager
